It’s hard to imagine that it was two years ago that North Texas lost a person who stretched his artistic muscles. Donald Fowler was a lover of music, storytelling and creativity. With all the entrepreneurial spirit of an oil wildcatter, he applied his talents and reached out way beyond the traditional artistic trends.

After a 15-year effort, his musical “Creep” about Jack the Ripper came to life on the stage at WaterTower Place in 2015.

Following that effort he undertook another project called “Oregon,” but died before it could take place.

In honor of his accomplishments, both past and promised, his friends, cohorts and benefactors are holding a one-night-only memorial concert — “A Celebration of Donald Fowler: A Life in the Theater” — on Monday, January 10, at On the Levee in the Dallas Design District.

The concert will feature a performance of a selection from “Oregon” and the new musical “38 Minutes” by Holly Doubet, who was the recipient of the inaugural new work grant from the Donald Fowler Theater Arts Memorial Fund at The Dallas Foundation.

With Scott Eckert handling the musical direction with the assistance of Vonda Bowling, the cast will include Mikey Abrams, Jonathan Bragg, Patty Breckenridge, Peter DiCesare, Marisa Diotalevi, Holly Doubet, Stephanie Riggs Kirkham, Jennifer Pasion Kuenzer, Denise Lee, Terry Loftis, Markus Lloyd, Janelle Lutz, Sara Shelby Martin, Morgan Maxey, Liz Mikel, Doug Miller, Stacey Oristano, Shane Peterman, Cara Serber, Amy Stevenson, Trey Tolleson, Lee Walter and Seth Womack.

While the evening will be free-of-charge, donations will be welcome benefiting the Memorial Fund. Despite open seating, reservations are required and may be made by emailing here “to have direct contact information for guests in case of updates.”
