A Passing: Roger Horchow

It was just a simple year ago when the Dior exhibition was dazzling North Texans at the Dallas Museum of Art. Among the crowd was a stately white-haired widower with azure blue eyes in suit and tie. He was sharp as a finely honed knife despite being just past the 90-year mark. He chatted seamlessly with DMA Eugene McDermott Director Agustín Arteaga. A few days earlier he had attended the black-tie Sweetheart Ball with Charron Denker to help raise funding for UT Southwestern’s cardiology research. In October he doffed the tie look and joined the crowd at Park and Palate’s Dinner in the Park to support Klyde Warren Park.

Needless to say, Roger Horchow seemed comfortable in any setting. After all, the man who had been born on July 3, 1928, in Cincinnati had lived through everything from toddler days in the Great Depression, watching George Gershwin play on the Horchow family piano, attending Yale and serving in the Korean War. He was smart, creative and self-made. He knew the ins and outs of business and philanthropy and what he didn’t know, he was a quick study to learn.

It was in the late 1950s that he and his bride/Bloomingdale’s fashion staffer Carolyn Pfeifer Horchow (they were engaged after just seven dates) found their way to Dallas and Neiman Marcus, where he impressed merchant prince Stanley Marcus. One of his first assignments was buying merchandise for the 1958 English Fortnight. Upon reviewing Roger’s presentation of goods, Stanley told him, “Well, you’re learning.” But Mr. Stanley would also discover that Roger had a vision for catalogue merchandising as he ran the store’s mail-order department. According to a D Magazine article, columnist Eugenia Sheppard wrote, “Roger Horchow changed the mail-order catalogue from something deadly dull into a publication that women can hardly wait to open.”

Roger would leave Neiman’s to co-found The Horchow Collection with Carolyn. Years later it would be purchased by Neiman’s and provide Roger with millions of dollars to become a modern-day Texas renaissance man.

He had not only been an innovator in luxury retailing (The Horchow Collection), an author (“The Art Of Friendship, 70 Simple Rules of Making Meaningful Connections,” “Living In Style By Horchow” and “Elephants In Your Mailbox: How I Learned The Secrets Of Mail-Order Marketing Despite Having Made 25 Horrendous Mistakes”) and being a Tony-winning Broadway angel (Crazy For You; Kiss Me, Kate; Curtains; Gypsy, and Annie), he had carried on the philanthropic endeavors that he and Carolyn had undertaken.

For instance, his relationship with the DMA spanned more than four decades with his not only holding leadership positions, but also providing substantial funding that included the building of the Museum’s Horchow Auditorium in 1993. Just this past June, Roger had signed up for a three-year term on the board of trustees.

According to Agustín, “While his support for our building, special exhibitions, the collections, and public programming were immense, he never lost his passion for retail, and he constantly found ways to use it in service to the Museum. Whenever Roger said he was coming by, I knew the first place I would find him was in the DMA Store, fiddling with everything from the window dressing to the white lights, and making sure visitors could find something to buy. His leadership and support of the DMA has played an important role in making our Museum the dynamic place it is today. I am thankful I had the opportunity to know Roger and his family, including his daughters Sally [Horchow], Regen [Horchow Fearon] and Lizzie [Routman]. We will miss his wink, his sly humor, his critical thinking, and his smile. We will mourn him.”

But despite his death Saturday, his and Carolyn’s legacy will continue on thanks to their daughters and five granddaughters.

And while no memorial service is planned, why not settle back and enjoy a little Gershwin in Roger’s memory?

A Passing: Donald Fowler

Donald Fowler (File photo)

If there was ever a person whose life was filled with colorful and magical threads, it was Donald Fowler. He looked at each person and opportunity as a brilliant new thread to weave into his life’s tapestry.

There was the thread of the theater. From acting to producing, Donald loved the boards. Just because he had no formal musical training, he didn’t let that deter him from writing the book and songs for his original musical, “Creep – the very, very sad  but unfortunately true and completely fabricated tale of Jack-The-Ripper” that debuted at WaterTower Theatre in 2015. Who would have thought of a musical based on the legendary Jack The Ripper? Donald did.

There was the thread of his innate retailing talent from working with the former Nest to overseeing the Nasher Sculpture Center Store.

There was the thread of his ability to collect for people. When he entered a room of strangers, he left with a herd of new best friends.

Just before taking off on an afternoon jog Sunday, he wrote on Facebook, “There’s a holiday for everything, and lucky for us today happens to be National Garden Meditation Day! Celebrate in the spirit of the Nasher by taking a moment out of your day to relax in your garden.”

Minutes later he was killed on the Houston Street Viaduct when he was struck by a DART streetcar.

Like so many talented artists, Donald’s life was cut too short. His untimely death at the age of 58 was a great loss to all who knew him.

A memorial service is being planned to take place after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. A fund honoring Donald is being set up at The Dallas Foundation.

We’ve Rescheduled! – Resource Center’s Toast To Life Sequins And Saddles

According to Resource Center’s CEO Cece Cox,

Cece Cox*
Resource Center*

If there is one thing that we’ve learned over 37 years at the Center, it’s being flexible and resilient in serving the needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) and HIV communities of North Texas. Even as the coronavirus pandemic continues to create new challenges daily, the Center is adjusting its programs and services to continue meeting the needs of our clients and community and that includes our 22nd annual Toast To Life event.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and to keep the safety and wellness in mind of our guests, we have decided to pivot this year’s gala to a 100% virtual event. Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 4, Toast To Life Sequins and Saddles is now scheduled for Saturday, July 25, from 7-8 p.m. This is our single largest fundraiser of the year and it has helped us secure more than $4 million since its inception in 1999, raising funds for our organization’s programs and services. It’s an opportunity for North Texas’ LGBTQ community, our allies and our supporters to gather together for a night of epic fun with a lasting fundraising impact for the Center.

Resource Center’s Toast To Life Sequins And Saddles*

This year’s Toast To Life is presented by ASP Cares Pharmacy. Normally over 500 guests would attend our signature event but since this year’s event has gone virtual, the number of attendees is limitless! Sequins and Saddles is this year’s theme and while we won’t get to see our guests’ fabulous outfits in person, they can still show off the Western-glam theme by posting their pics on Instagram, tag @myresourcectr and include the hashtag #rctoasttolife for a chance to win a prize. This year’s event is co-chaired by Brittanie Buchanan Oleniczak and Darin Kunz and hosted by Steve Kemble, America’s sassiest lifestyle guru. This fun-loving trio will be sure to keep our virtual guests glued to their screens!

Live music was originally planned at Toast To Life, but now everyone can dance at home like no one’s watching with tunes spun by DJ Blake Ward and live music by The Roof Raisers! Silent auctions items including fabulous custom art, home décor, hotel stays, fine dining gift certificates and more will be available to bid online two weeks prior to event with all proceeds benefiting the programs and services of the Center.

It’s not a party without wonderful food and this year is no different! Even though Toast To Life will be virtual, guests can still munch on tasty dishes from 14 of Dallas’ top restaurants who are graciously providing promotional discounts the entire weekend of the event. Local restaurants include Big Al’s Smokehouse BBQ, Dive Coastal Cuisine, Foxyco and Stock and Barrel, Luckys Café, Lucky Cat Vegan, Paradiso, Posh Cakes by Shane Morgan, Salum, Starbucks Coffee Company, Street’s Fine Chicken, Taco Y Vino, Truluck’s Seafood, Steak and Crab House and Tulum. Guests can also expect surprises from our beverage sponsors.

Toast To Life is a wonderful opportunity for our supporters to make a significant impact for the people we serve. Whether it’s nutritious groceries for those living with HIV, testing for those most at risk for HIV or support for LGBTQ teens so they can be their authentic selves, the funds raised during this event changes lives in our community.

Currently, each day is presenting new “challenges” that we are choosing to see as “opportunities” – determining the best way to serve our clients and community. We cannot yet see how this pandemic will play out in the long run but what we can do is continue to come up with compassionate and creative solutions to keep us all connected, and we will do that at this year’s virtual Toast To Life Sequins and Saddles.

Resource Center is a trusted leader that empowers the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) communities and all people affected by HIV through improving health and wellness, strengthening families and communities and providing transformative education and advocacy.

Dan Roby*

According to Austin Street Center CEO Dan Roby,

Austin Street Center is excited to announce a new date for our 20th Annual Humble Beginnings Luncheon featuring Tony and Grammy Award-Winning performer, Leslie Odom Jr.  As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak in March, Austin Street Center’s spring signature luncheon, originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, was postponed to the fall, and will now be held on Friday, September 25, at 11:30 a.m. at the Omni Hotel Dallas.

Rescheduling this year’s luncheon was a very difficult but prudent decision that followed recommended guidelines. Our first priority was the health and safety of our guests and the wider community, especially as we navigate these unprecedented times. This is especially true in the wake of the recent crisis, where we have seen not only an increase in the need for our services, but also the need for new and innovative service models that adhere to social distancing guidelines.

As keynote speaker, Odom Jr. will take the stage with a combined performance and moderated talk at this year’s luncheon, chaired by Co-Chairs Richie Butler and Chris Kleinert.

Austin Street Center’s Humble Beginnings Luncheon*

Best known for his breakout role as ‘Aaron Burr’ in the smash hit Broadway musical, “Hamilton,” Odom Jr. received a 2015 Drama Desk Award nomination and won the Tony Award for “Best Actor in a Musical” for his performance. He also won a Grammy Award as a principal soloist on the original cast recording.

The Humble Beginnings Luncheon celebrates Austin Street Center’s work in providing safe shelter and basic needs that helps Dallas’ most vulnerable homeless neighbors bring an end to their homeless experience. Funds raised at the luncheon will go toward these basic needs and to help our program reach Dallas’ most vulnerable. Approximately 700 people are expected to attend.

JUST IN: 2020 Cattle Baron’s Ball Is Getting Back To Its Roots With A Change Of Locations

2020 is definitely requiring flexibility. While many fundraising events are juggling schedules and locations to meet the ever-changing COVID-19 conditions, 2020 Cattle Baron’s Ball Co-Chairs Diana Hamilton and Heather Randall decided “to embrace our roots.” And they aren’t talking about the follicle types.

For years, the American Cancer Society mega-fundraiser was held outdoors at area ranches, as well as at Southfork. In recent years it had gone “under cover” at Gilley’s.

Kit Sawers (File photo)

Earlier this year it was announced that the shindig was going to be held at Frisco’s The Star.

Then the virus arrived and resulted in definite changes of how events were to be held with social distancing as a priority. Diana and Heather recognized that social distancing was better achieved in wide open spaces. With that in mind, they have moved the cocktails, great food, fun and entertainers Dierks Bentley and Cole Swindell outdoors.

Where, you wonder? Wonder no longer. Instead of heading to far-off locations, the Baronesses will be calling Klyde Warren Park the place to party and raise funds on Saturday, October 17.

No doubt Klyde Warren Park President Kit Sawers is already shopping for a new pair of boots to celebrate the first ever Cattle Baron’s Ball held in Downtown Dallas’ sweetheart of a park.

Deadline Approaches For Business Council For The Arts’ 2020-2021 Leadership Arts Institute

If ever there was a time when North Texas art groups could use a helping hand, it’s now. With museums and performing art groups being shuttered and staffs being furloughed or let go, it’s a bleak time.

Luckily, these organizations have an ace up their proverbial sleeve. That is the collection of people who volunteer to serve on their boards. From business leaders to community activists, they provide a wealth of connections and experience that has built the area’s reputation for outstanding presentations.

Business Council for the Arts*

To help provide new members for such boards, Business Council for the Arts (BCA) sponsors the Leadership Arts Institute (LAI), a nine-month program of arts leadership training. This year’s LAI will begin in September and continue through graduation in May 2021 with classes meeting monthly for a half day.

The goal is to provide an opportunity to:

  • Build leadership expertise
  • Learn best practices in nonprofit leadership
  • Meet prominent business leaders who advocate for the North Texas creative community.
  • Gain access to resources that promote arts and cultural leadership, creativity and innovation
  • Network with colleagues from a cross-section of North Texas businesses
  • Experience the region’s art and cultural venue on a first-hand basis
  • Strength future commitment to the creative economy of North Texas
Business Council for the Arts’ Leadership Arts Institute*

During the term, a project will provide the class with “the opportunity to engage with LAI fellows as well as other business and arts leaders in the community.”

According to BCA Program Manager Chelsea Holmes, “Upon completion of the nine-month program, graduates may request placement on nonprofit boards of directors in the arts and cultural communities.

Tuition for the course ranges from $1,825 (BCA member companies) to $2,225 (nonmembers) and includes all materials, event fees and entertainment, plus membership in Leadership Arts Alumni for the balance of the calendar year following graduation. However, scholarships may be available.

Applications are available now online with a deadline of Friday, July 31, for submission.

Despite the COVID-19 cases seeming to be on the downswing, the North Texas fundraising events are still taking hits… and this one is a big one. Here is today’s update:

Cancellation

2019 Dallas Symphony Orchestra Gala (File photo)

As reported before, all the area nonprofits are experiencing dramatic challenges with the arts feeling like they’re on the Titanic and there are no lifeboats left. But North Texas is not a boat that can be sunk by a pesky virus.

Hopefully, the longtime and newbie supporters will step up and come through especially for the arts. Such talents as Van Cliburn, LeAnn Rimes, Margo Jones, Erykah Badu, Kathy Bates, Sly Stone, Aaron Spelling, Norah Jones, Boz Scaggs, Tommy Lee Jones, Usher, Kelly Clarkson, Willis Alan Ramsey, Tommy Lee Jones, Selena Gomez, T-Bone Walker, Peri Gilpin, Terry Southern, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Vanilla Ice, Roger Horchow, Jonas brothers (Joe, Kevin and Nick), Sharon Tate, Demi Lovato, Michael Nesmith, Jayne Mansfield, Trini Lopez, Jimmie Vaughan, Lisa Loeb, Simpson sisters (Ashlee and Jessica), Meat Loaf, Sam the Sham, Stephen Stills, Stephen Tobolowsky, Jimmie Vaughan, Wilson brothers (Luke and Owen), Robin Wright Penn and many others have all cut their teeth in these parts.

The next crop of creative talent is just waiting in the wings and needs your support.

JUST IN: Despite 2020 Cattle Baron’s Ball’s Being Canceled, The Fundraising Will Giddy-Up On

North Texas’ Cattle Baron’s Ball is one of the fall season’s biggest fundraisers with more than 3,000 guests partying to raise funds for cancer research in North Texas with the American Cancer Society. Since its establishment in 1974, it has not only raised more than $85M but it has become the “world’s largest single night fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.”

2020 Cattle Baron’s Ball’s “Just Livin’ #Take Cancer By The Horns*

With all this history and need for funds, 2020 Cattle Baron’s Ball Co-Chairs Diana Hamilton and Heather Randall have been working around the clock to find a way to hold this year’s fundraiser safely in this world of COVID-19.

Despite their best efforts, they just announced “the cancellation of the 2020 Cattle Baron’s Ball which was originally scheduled for October 17th.”

According to Heather, “The families and individuals affected by cancer are counting on us to fight this disease no matter the circumstances. We are forever grateful to volunteers and donors during this pandemic.”

While the concert and dining around will not take place, the CBB committee of 100 volunteers is charging ahead to provide funds. Details are still in the works, but “the committee will unveil opportunities to support their fund-raising efforts in mid-August.”

Diana added, “We are still committed to moving forward with raffle, silent auction and mission fundraising. We will reveal the logistics and ways to participate very soon.”

According to Dallas Summer Musicals President Kenneth Novice,

Kenneth Novice*

With a proud, 80-year history of presenting and promoting excellence in live musical theater in the historic Fair Park, the nonprofit Dallas Summer Musicals (DSM) has become an essential part of the North Texas community through live entertainment, education, and community outreach.

In partnership with Broadway Across America, DSM presents national Broadway tours to diverse audiences of all ages, from varying regional locations as close as downtown Dallas and as far as neighboring states. For 365 days a year, we work tirelessly to bring to the very best musicals and plays from New York, London’s West End, and around the world to Dallas.

While Broadway is our business, our mission goes far beyond the glitz and glamour of the stage. We work equally as hard to deliver the spirit of Broadway into all corners of our community—for those who need it most. In classrooms and community centers throughout the region, DSM lifts spirits and sparks curiosity through the magic that only live theater can deliver. We’re honored to engage with distinguished organizations, such as Dallas ISD, El Centro Community College, CitySquare, HopeKids, State Fair of Texas, and more. We’re looking forward to the long-term future as our education initiatives expand into integrating the arts into STEM curriculums. Used as a tool to teach math- and science-related courses, the arts can broaden students’ understandings of the world and serve as a catalyst for creative and innovative thinking.

Dallas Summer Musical’s Bes Of Broadway**

In 2021, DSM will celebrate the 10th anniversary of one of our signature educational programs, the High School Musical Theatre Awards (HSMTA), which honors the outstanding work of more than 5,000 students from local and regional schools. More than an awards show, HSMTA is a school-year program offering participating students and schools professional training through master classes led by local artists and members of national Broadway tours, as well mentorship throughout the rehearsal process. Each year, DSM awards $55,000 in scholarships to students and school programs.

As we all navigate the challenges of this global pandemic and plan for the future, staying connected with one another and sharing stories is more important than ever. Through resilience and flexibility, DSM is proud to fulfill our audiences’ needs for entertainment and engagement in fresh ways. We transformed our annual HSMTA into a fully virtual show this past May, we’ve launched and continued to provide multiple educational series on our YouTube channel, and we are now offering livestream virtual benefit performances

During this time when we are dark in our building, our donors have helped make the light at the end of the tunnel burn more brightly through their generosity. For anyone who has a passion for our mission to enrich the cultural landscape of our region, please join them and us. We encourage and appreciate all donations, available here: https://dallassummermusicals.org/giving-opportunities/make-a-general-donation/.

While Broadway is the core of our mission, community is the center of our heart.

The changes of plans continue to keep the “datekeepers” busy adjusting and re-adjusting their calendars. The good news is that on today’s Update is not only are no cancellations, there are a couple organizations are looking to 2021 for in-person activities.

The almost-as-good news is that some groups are adjusting to the new world of virtual eventing. If you haven’t tried this monitor-watching attendance, you might want to give it a try. Not only does the ticket price very user-friendly, they tend to run a lot shorter and don’t require masks.

In its 68-year history, Crystal Charity Ball has provided more than $149,387,669 for children’s nonprofits in Dallas County. This past February the committee of 100 committed to raising $7,870,020 for eight beneficiaries (Ability Connection, Catch Up and Read, Center for Vision Health, Children’s Medical Center Foundation, Foundation for Callier Center for Communication Disorders, Healing Hands Ministries, Mommies in Need Inc. and North Texas Food Bank). A month later, COVID-19 invaded North Texas like the rest of the country and life dramatically changed. Nary a nonprofit was left unscathed by the disease.

Today 2020 CCB Chair Tucker Enthoven announced the cancellation of the 2020 black-tie gala scheduled for Saturday, December 5.

As Tucker explained, “After developing and analyzing multiple venue, food, and entertainment options for the Ball, we have concluded that an in-person event is not appropriate this year given our concern for both the health and well-being of our donors and vendors and the economic uncertainty brought on by the pandemic.”

But just because the Ball is canceled doesn’t mean that the CBB-ers are throwing in the towel. During the first week of December, both the luxury Silent Auction and Contribution Ticket drawing will be held online, as will the distribution of the 2020 Children’s Book.

So, while the Ball will not take place, the generosity of the supporters will hopefully achieve this year’s goal. After all, it’s not about a party; it’s about the children of Dallas County.

History note: The only other time that CCB canceled the ball was in 1963 following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy that took place just days before.

Equest has been making the rounds throughout Dallas for the past couple of years for its annual gala fundraiser. For this reason, many folks haven’t made the trek down to Texas Horse Park since Equest’s newest facility — the Al Hill Jr. Arena — was built.

Change is in the wind. 2021 Equest Co-Chairs Lisa and Kendall Laughlin and Katherine and Austin Wyker are herding the party back to Texas Horse Park for Equest’s 40th Anniversary Gala: Celebrating 40 Years Of Horse Power.

Both Lisa and Katherine have been involved with Equest for years by having served on the board of directors, as well as Lisa’s granddaughter, Elizabeth Laughlin, being an Equest client, and Katherine’s family foundation serving as a therapy horse sponsors and contributor to the Hill Arena capital campaign.

Taking place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, the occasion will “recognize and pay tribute” to past honorary chairs including: Susan Schwartz and Louise and Guy Griffeth (1980-1990); Steve Barnett and Dr. Candice Chandler (1990-2000); Pamela and Michael Petty (2000-2010); Carol and William Huckin and The Huckin/Lupton Family (2010-2020); and Julia and Blake Schwarz and Caitlin and Thomas Laughlin (2020 to the future).

In addition to a welcoming cocktail reception, seated dinner, live and silent auctions, there will be a performance by the Jordan Kahn Group’s 11-piece Walton Stout Band.

Sponsorship and ticket information will be on the Equest Gala website in January 2021.

2020 has been a bit different for every man, woman, child and pet. So, MySweetCharity is gonna shake things up a bit for Christmas. Since homebound has become a state mind and body, we’re gonna celebrate Christmas with holiday flash mobs throughout the day to remind us of the good old days when people wore smiles instead of masks and they gathered in crowds oblivious of a sneaky virus.

Some are just plain fun; some are poignant; they last from two to seven minutes.

And for those who want a little background holiday music by which to open gifts, write thank-you notes, cook up feasts and settle back from all the hurrying and scurrying of the past few days, here are some places that will be streaming all day long.

Instrumental Christmas Music: Peaceful Piano Christmas Music “Christmas at the North Pole” Tim Janis

And if you don’t have a real fireplace burning away in your home, here’s one that can fill your monitor. If you listen carefully, you can hear the crackle of the logs burning.

Have a peaceful day, but remember that COVID-19 and the flu definitely will not be taking the day off.

While airlines have been suffering from the lack of travel these past months, back in 2011 the Lisbon Airport was rocking and rolling with a staff flashmob that included Santa scooting around on a baggage cart and onlookers being drafted into the act.

If you watch at the 4:23 minute marker, you’ll spy a munchkin pulling down mama mia’s arms as she sways with the music.

Double Down Against Cancer*

2021 Cattle Baron’s Ball Co-Chairs Diana Hamilton and Heather Randall are putting all their news in one announcement. It seems to raise funds for cancer research in North Texas, they just revealed that in addition to the big gala returning to Gilley’s, they’ve resurrected an event from the past —the Cattle Baron’s Ball Golf Tournament. Last held in 2008, the 2021 tournament is being co-chaired by Kristi Bare and Nancy Gopez and will take place on Monday, May 3, at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas.

As for the largest single-night fundraiser in the world for the American Cancer Society, it will take place on Saturday, October 23. Diana and Heather were fortunate enough to re-sign the two entertainers who were originally planned for last year’s canceled fundraiser. Cole Swindell will get the hoopla going on the VIP Stage with multi-Platinum singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley capping the evening on the main stage under the humongous tent.

With the double-event program, it’s no wonder that this year’s theme is “Doubling Down Against Cancer.”

Following the roots of Cattle Baron’s founding in 1974, funds hauled in from the two events will benefit the American Cancer Society in North Texas. So far that’s amounted to $86M. Let’s see how far that number can rise.

North Texans have hardly gotten used to writing 2021 when many are looking to 2022 for fundraising. One of those early birds is the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League. Having had to cancel its 2021 Presentation Ball after a couple of hopeful postponements due to the pandemic, organizers have moved on with their eyes set on February 2022.

It should be a great return with the debs in white ball gowns and honor guards in white tie on the Morton Meyerson’s stage on Saturday, February 12, with Elizabeth Gambrell chairing the Dallas Symphony Orchestra fundraiser. Elizabeth is a bowing events vet having co-chaired the 2018 La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas and having  daughter, Eleanor Gambrell, presented at the 2020 DSOL Presentation Ball.

Adding an extra touch of sparkle will be Honorary Chair Sherwood Wagner.

With a year to prepare for the formal occasion, the 2021 debs (Nora Arnold, Audrey Hanna, London Boscamp, Abigail Brannon, Eliza Davis, Katherine Edwards, Virginia Fielder, Sophie Hung, Ashley Isenberg, Madigan Jacoby, Jessica Katzman, Claire Koonsman, Brett Landin, Story Langston, McKinley Lawson, Elizabeth Mocek, Kaitlin Murray, Abbey Perry, Rachel Pope, Mary Tarver Reid, Isabella Scott, Abby Stanford, Tory Wicklund, Annie Saustad, Annie Sawers, Ella Varel and Kelsey Wittmann) and families, who missed out on all the pre-event and ball activities, are being invited to participate in the 2022 program.

With The Senior Source’s Spirit of Generations Luncheon last month in the rearview mirror honoring Pam and Tom Luce along with Barbara Delabano receiving the Molly H. Bogen Service Award, The Senior Source team now has their sights set on the nonprofit’s 60th anniversary year.

President/CEO Stacey Malcolmson revealed that plans are underway to celebrate the organization that was established in 1961 to “enhance the quality of life of older adults in Dallas.”

It’s hard to imagine that was the same year that John F. Kennedy was sworn in as President of the U.S.; The Beatles performed for the first time with George Harrison on board; Barbie got a boyfriend named Ken; Six Flags Over Texas opened to the public and George Clooney was born.

According to Stacey, “We will be celebrating with a dance contest and a fundraising campaign that will help us for the next 60 years!”

Serving as the campaign’s honorary co-chairs will be Betty and John Taylor.

Stay tuned for more details to come.
