There are probably a lot of folks with aching necks this morning after last night’s Texas Ballet Theater (TBT) reveal at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. The reason for the sore muscles was due to the more than 150 guests craning their necks looking up at the mammoth light board above the bar revealing TBT’s 2023-2024 season.
TBT Executive Director Vanessa Logan was thrilled over the turnout for the announcement that included an impressive array of four productions that will take place in Dallas and Fort Worth.
Leading off the season will be the return of the ghoulish delight “Dracula,” on Friday, September 15, thru Sunday, September 17, at the Winspear Opera House and Friday, October 6, thru Sunday, October 8, at Bass Performance Hall. Originally choreographed by TBT Artistic Director Laureate Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., in 1997, the first production featured current TBT Acting Artistic Director Tim O’Keefe in the title role. The last time it was performed was in 2015.
According to Tim, “Many of our artistic and production staff worked on the world premiere 25 years ago, myself included. I’m looking forward to working on this ballet with Ben again and sharing it with our audiences, who have been eager to see it again.”
Following the bloodcurdling production, TBT will celebrate the holiday season with its annual production of Stevenson’s “The Nutcracker,” at the Winspear from Friday, November 24, thru Sunday, December 3, and at the Bass from Friday, December 8, thru Sunday, December 24.
To kick off the new year, TBT is producing a dazzling four-in-one production, “Brilliants,” a mixed repertoire collection including “Rubies” choreographed by George Balanchine, “Grand Pas Classique” choreographed by Victor Gsovsky, “Le Corsaire Pas de Deux” choreographed by Rudolf Nureyev and “Without Borders” choreographed by Val Caniparoli.
Starting its run at the Bass from Friday, February 23, thru Sunday, February 25, “Brilliants” will be staged at the Wyly Theatre from Friday, March 1, through Sunday, March 3.
The TBT season will end its season beautifully… literally… with “Beauty and the Beast” choreographed by Lew Christensen returning to the Winspear from Friday, May 3, thru Sunday, May 5, and the Bass from Friday, May 17, thru Sunday May 19.
